We believe that kids are amazing and it’s our privilege to teach them. Our approach is to create a supportive environment that gives them the opportunity to grow and thrive. We teach respect, focus, discipline and confidence as well as practical and age-appropriate self defence skills. Astra’s kids program is called "Paladin" to embody the qualities of a warrior who fights for a cause and to protect others. Paladins are known for their bravery, virtue, and dedication to helping others. The Paladin program is designed to instil these same values in young learners, combining martial arts training with lessons in integrity, responsibility, and community service.
The Junior program focuses on fundamental skills such as focus, discipline, physical coordination and basic
techniques. Juniors learn kicking, blocking and punching, grappling and traditional form work through fun repetition.
Benefits include:
* Physical: Improved coordination, balance, fitness and strength
* Self defence: Situational awareness and practical self defence, appropriate for their age and size
* Mental: Improved discipline, respect and focus, as well as courtesy and confidence.
* Social: Provides opportunities for positive social interactions, teamwork and building friendships.
* Growth: Develops problem solving skills, learns goal setting, and stress relief and emotional regulation.
Paladins are rewarded through a belt and stripe system with quarterly gradings, as well as a motivational training card to track progress each class.

We regularly host workshops, seminars and events for specific martial arts skills, such as self defence, kicking and flexibility as well as adjacent mind, body and spirit fields like introduction to parkour, yoga, and mindfulness. These usually run on the last Saturday of the school holidays. All upcoming events can be viewed and booked via our website for non-members and via the Member Portal for members.
We regularly organise community events and charitable activities as a studio because we believe that it’s important to give back. This could picking up rubbish at a nearby park, collecting bottles for recycling, collecting donations for a cause, and much more. For our younger students in particular, this gives an important sense of belonging and also speaks to one of our core values - be capable so you can serve and you are connected to others (just like a star is part of the cosmos, hence our name). Our community events and activities are organised by our coaches, parents, or students.
